Pembroke 2019 all over again!

Having had a number of hard boat trips to Pembroke over the last couple of years, we reckoned we knew enough dive sites and decided to take the club boats down for the August bank holiday weekend.  The weather running up to the weekend was decidedly iffy but by the week before we were due to go things were looking better, but would the visibilty be any good?  Underwater visibiity at Pembroke does clear faster than many other Welsh locations and local contacts assured us it would be fine.  But half the group weren't sure and decided to bail out.  No bother, we would just take one boat instead of two and all would be fine.

So on Friday evening we headed down to Upper Neeston bunkhouse, our favourite accomodation in the area with high expectations and we were not disappointed.  Saturday had glorious sunshine and moderate southeasterlies.  We planned to launch at Milford Haven Marina and keep the boat in the water there overnight.  So two of us put the boat into the water & then took her round to Little Haven at the southern end of St Brides Bay.  St Brides was completely sheltered, the water was flat and we had our first dive on Stack Rock which was lovely.  Then back to Little Haven for lunch and fresh cylinders before heading off High Point for our second dive.  We weren't quite sure where High Point was & actually got the next bay round, but had a lovely dive there as well.  Visibility on both dives was a good 5 m!

Sunday was equally sunny.  The wind had swung round to the south west but also dropped off to almost nothing.  So this time we headed round to Martins Haven to pick up divers and kit and then had another go at High Point.  This time we found it and had a lovely dive.  Visibility was an impressive 10 m.  Then after lunch we headed over to Skomer and dived North Wall - also lovely and some of our party got their 35 m dive progression signed off.

So all in all, a very enjoyable weekend.  We learned a lot about the dive sites and where to launch the boat, stop off for lunch and all the details that make for a sucessful trip.  Definately one to be repeated next year.  Maybe next time we'll get both the boats down there?
